Tranny end shaft weight question

I have a replacement 87 TC tranny that I am going to install and use while I rebuild the original..

It has what looks like a weight attached to it that bolts just under the drive shaft but the original tranny in the car does not have this attached weight

Should I leave it on or take it off ?

Mines off.

Less road-hugging-weight with it off. Our 86 came without it. The dampening weight on the diff 'fell' off soon after it rolled into our driveway.

I took mine off on my Ranger, less rotating mass I would think.

Yea I had a 87 TC engine in it Shaved both sides of the flywheel and removed the shaft weight. It did make a change, it engine braked a bit more when you let off the gas.

I believe we're talking about the weight that hangs off the back of the T5, it don't spin...

yes they weight at the end that does not spin ....

I looked through some old posts and did not see a pic of the weight at the end of the transmission, just the rotational damper on the shaft. Can someone point me to a pic please. I have a good one for the differential.

Here's the "Grab handle" used when removing the tranny on an 84.

I have 4 SVOs and none of them have the weight. The 85 does not have it and I have no record of it being removed by the previous owner or Ford. Did all SVOs have it?
