  • 8.8 production question

Ok, I did a search and came up dry. I spent a fair amount of time on it too.

What year did the 8.8 in the Mustang debut, and do all the years have quad shock bracketry?
I can put the SVO axles and the brake brackets on one and be good to go?

I remember reading where someone (Mike Fleming I believe) posted that the 8.8 came out in '86 on the 5.0 cars? I can't remember....

By the time the 1985.5 and 1986 SVO models reached the dealerships, the SVO was already a "dead car" so it was not mod'd to use the 8.8.
With this said, I ask again (please),

You can move down 2 inches on the brackets on a 87-88 turbo coupe rear end and drill new holes for the quad shocks to line up if that is where you are headed with this. Any of the 8.8 mustang rear ends will have the quad shocks in the correct place for the svo or any year that quad shocks came on a mustang.

          8.8

And yes, you can switch the axles and rear disc brackets and use the 8.8.

if you use a 8.8 from a 87-88 t-bird all you need to swap is the axles and re drill the quad shock mounts . i have one in my 84
moving forward in a backwards rotation

Thanks for the responses from everyone. I was more concerned with the Mustang 8.8 because I am looking to get all the info in order so I can start my search, and also because the Mustang is so much more prevalent than the 87-88 TC. There are literally THOUSANDS of them available from where I can get a donor in comparison.

My biggest concern was the quadshock and caliper bracket mounting and that has been answered.
