  • Boport 2.1 Cam

Well, I finally have enough seat time in the car to access the cam and I can only say !

    Here's my setup:
    • Rapido Aluminum head with big valves and a mild port job.
    • Rod's Header
    • Evergreen turbo rebuild with the largest T04B wheel compressor side and stage 3 turbine
    • ATP Turbo's ultimate internal wastegate with 3" V-band connection.
    • My own 3" SS downpipe into 2.5 duals
    • Stock bottom end with ARP rod bolts
    • Stock intercooler
    • Motion Dynamic cold air kit.
    • MM subframes and panhard bar
The cam's specifed range from Bo is 3200 to 6500 rpm and in that range the HP and torque are ready and available. With the cam straight up, it is a little sluggish below 3k rpm, so I advanced the cam timing ~10* to bring the torque band down to a more streetable area. Now I've got power right off the line.

For comparison, my previous setup had an A234 cam and the smaller T04B wheel with stock turbine side and a SAC 3" downpipe running 18 - 20 psi boost. And with this setup on the Barber course it was necessary to downshift to second to pull with the V8's on the tight hairpin turn and they would still walk away a little until the next braking event.

With the base timing set at 12* BTDC and the 2.1 Boport cam and the above mentioned setup and only 14 psi of boost, I was able to use 3rd for the turns and 4th for the straights all day. I could hang with most of V8's on the straights all day and would catch them easily in the turns. I can only image what will be possible with a FMIC and some more boost.

All in all, I say and thanks Boport. It was money well spent.

I have the 1.5 sitting on the shelf waiting to go in. I read all of these reports and it makes me re-thing my decision on the 1.5 as compared to a 2.x.

Sounds like a very nice improvement.

Haven't put it on the dyno yet, but I was able to keep up with a 99-04 model Steeda, so you could check what they are rated it at. When I get numbers, i'll post 'em.

The 1.5 doesn't have the same lift as the 2.1, but I think it will be more all around friendly to a street driven car. I think Bo says that both will give an extra 40HP, just in different RPM ranges. Try it first and see if it suits your driving style. Since it is a roller, you could easily buy the 2.1 later and sale the 1.5.

Just a question (probably should just ask Bo, but.......) if I chose to change from the 1.5 to the 2.1 would I have to re-shim the HLAs again?

You will need additional machining on the valve guides to clearance for the extra lift and aftermarket springs. It would be best to ask Bo. He has a forum on his site that you can ask questions.

Well my plan, if I ever go beyond a 1 series is to just have him build me a head and get it all in one unit from him. The KISS methodology.

Did you run the 2.1 straight up? More or less pinging in third/forth? What compression are you running now?

I have a 2.1 cam coming soon. Getting excited to try it!

                      Raven,
With it straight up, the power off the line was a little sluggish, but would then really open up starting at 3200 rpm all the way to red line. No pinging with 93 octane. Stock CR.

Thanks, I went over to his site again and read on the products page and it clearly states that.

Well I find this interesting. I have the 2.1 cam, in the head but not on the car. Can you post your setup?
