  • Starting my 6 month down SVO

Yeah, I screwed up. SVO has been down about 6 months, on jack stands. Tire were removed, but I'm worried about the engine. Wasn't prepped at all.

Fairly fresh engine stock type short block, 10K miles. Synthetic at about 3K.

Money/time is tight. Do I change oil, spray wd-40 in spark plug holes, prime the oil pump, etc? Or just disconnect the fuel pump, spin it a few times, then start it up?

    Discussions welcome, thanks

    James

    (edit here)

Reason I posted here, was because this down time is a result of my post about rear end noise here back in october. I'm just wrapping that problem up. Feel free to move this post

if the engine was covered, and especially if it was garaged -- 6 months ain't nothing--- especially in TX (don't get that cold down there)

as easy as it is to prime the oil pump with a cordless drill, and removing the timing belt, I don't think 6 months is that bad---

Pull the coil wire, hold the gas pedal to the floor (seceret that keeps the injectors from firing) spin it about 15 or so times, and fire it up ---

Don't start the engine, and lay into it, let it idle for about 10 mins at least --

If it had sat longer -- say 10 years I'd say prime it--- but 6-months ain't much -- you might also change the oil before starting too....

Or you could yank the coil wire and crank over for about 30 seconds to make sure oil at the top?/ But to keep the injectors from firing; I guess I could look myself at pulling the electricals to those......

naaa -- just hold the pedal to the floor -- that is suposed to keep the injectors from firing when starting.

          Dumb Question maybe??

Thanks Eric.....Why do the injectors not fire(open) at full throttle with no spark lets say??? I guess it might be in my fancy manuals......

Thanks Mike -- I'm glad you are around!!

                Ah, thanks.

I'll pull the plugs, coil wire, and crank it a bit at WOT. Hopefully this weekend.

Hasn't been garaged, I was more worried about rust on the cylinder walls, and no oil during startup.

                Thanks again.

You might try turning it over by hand first...

I wouldn't think 6 months would cause much tho--- unless it was left without the plugs in it...
