  • 3" upgrade?

Went to get some exhaust work done...3" upgrade, but once the machanic, apearently a pro v8 nut, saw it was a 4 cylinder turbo...his demeanor changed instantly and he said the three inch wouldnt fit, especially all the way back, over the axle and such.I didnt argue I just left.I think the guy is just lazy and doesnt want to mess with anything that might require alittle work.I mean the work bays were empty,I was the only one there.I took my MCSS to him to get an exhaust manifold leak fixed and he didnt want to do that either..should have known not to go back but I heard he was cracker jack on 3" exhaust but I guess that only for the v8's
So has anyone here had any problem w/there 3" upgrade? From what Ive read it doesnt seem to be a problem.

I just made a 3 inch exhaust and it wasn't all that big a deal. There is plenty of room until you get back to the rear axle. The tailpipe, where it goes over the rear axle is where there is the least amount of clearance, but not impossible. I had to deal with a few different bend radiuses to get it to clear under full suspension compression without hitting the axle or the floorboard. Look for a good muffler shop that is willing to listen to what you want. There are a couple pics on this testing thread before I did the tailpipe.

Thanks Pat.I saw your pics awhile back but a dont have a printer,so Im not able to show 'um to the muffler tech.I just figured someone who specializes in making exhuast should be able to do any problem solving.Besides how many fox bodys are out there with big exhaust..I'd say a s@#t load.It just seems to me that unless its a bolt on exhaust they dont want to mess with it.If I have to explain to them how to make it I might as well do it myself.I mean its like walking into a parts store, asking for a part and them saying we dont have it but we can order it.Heck I can order it myself if thats the case.
Sorry Im getting alittle frustrated here..just need to vent a little I guess so dont think any of this is directed at you.I just get alittle tired of the general public not giving the SVO any kind of respect or consideration because its a 4 cylinder. The guy was all up for the job until he saw it was a turbo. He acually wanted me to take the elbow off the turbo myself and bring it back w/the pipe on it before he'd work on it!
BTW your exhaust looked really good. What kind of muffler are you using? I'm wanting to run a fairly quiet one, thinking a/b a dynomax.

            3" MAC system?

I've read in various places that MAC make a 3" Cat back system off the shelf. You might give Paul a call at SPVU and inquire. I just recently had a 3"DP from Sac-Mustang installed. It fits and flows great with no problems.

Go to a local mustang shop (if you have one) ask them who they use for an exhaust shop whether you got a 2.3 or a 460 a good shop shouldn't have a problem. When that shop goes out of business he'll have his thumb up his *** and wonder why his business failed.
