  • Cowl paint???

I read in the FAQ's that the trim color is the DDL 33717 or the alternative DDC33717. Also noted that the door handles, key locks, and window wipers and semi-gloss balck.

    1) Are the window wipers referred to actually windshield wipers?
    2) Are the windshied wipers and cowl the DDL color or semi-gloss black?
    3) Is there any particular brand semi-gloss black?

    Cowl Paint

If you have a 1986 SVO the cowl should be the Gray color along with all the glass trim and mirrors. I think the door handles and wipers are the only semi-gloss black pieces.

OK, I needed this info too for the 85.5

What I was wondering, was if I needed a different paint for the plastic cowl panel than the metal trim.

Do you just use a different primer for the plastic, or use a different paint?

And while we're at it, how does that darn wiper arm come off without breaking anything?

I can't answer questions about the correct color for 86 trim, since my SVO is an 84, but I used "DUPLICOLOR" flat black on it. I got it at WalMart. They have wide variety of colors. If you're not looking for a Concours restoration, this is a pretty good and inexpensive way to go. I also used "vinyl and plastic" paint on all parts that are plastic, ie. the bumper trim and cowl.
Pat, in order to remove the wipers, just pull the blades away from the windshield as far as you can. This should reviel a small metal clip at the base of the wiper arm. Pull it away from the center of the shaft and the wiper will slide right off.

You probably do need different paint, or at least primer. I have seen some gray bumper paints that resemble the SVO trim gray, but the only problem is that bumper paint sometimes does not adhear well to metal.

The wiper arms should be black. the cowl cover (unless it's an 84 model) should be gray.

Not that I know of ...

                DOOR HANDLES

I am the second owner of my black 86 and knew the original owner(he owned the dealership I worked for) and my door handles are gray like the rest of the exterior trim. This may be unique to the black cars only. Mine has been repainted but I had it done where I worked and the door handles are original.

                  DON86SVO,

Nope...not unique to the black cars...not original. The door handles; all of them are semi-gloss black

                    RICH

The handles on my car are gray. They have never been painted and have never been removed from the car. As I said before I have been involved with everthing ever done to this car because I worked at the dealership where it was done. Maybe I have another one cars that's just different.
