  • IRS issue..

    Hey all,

looking for some advice, the previous owner installed an IRS and I thought all was well, but have noticed what sounds like a clunk when I shift under power, shop owner I know said it sounds like it might be a grommet or something loose causing it to walk a bit, so we plan on getting it in where we can get it up on the lift to get a good look at it. My question is, is there anything specific that I should be looking for? Something the previous owner may have missed with the install?

yeah, the bushings that hold the rear in place in the frame... there's 2 right in front.

Gator can tell you about them too

      Thank You!!

At least I know where to look now, any advice on what I will find? or will they just need to be replaced?

        Couple things first.

        1) Look to see if you have 12mm bolt holding the front subframe into the chassis. If you do, try and replace them with 14mm bolts. Sometimes they are a bit of a challenge to get in but they will help eradicate the dreaded “Cobra clunk”.

        2) Eric is right in his thinking, but i would also look at the differential mount bushing. Its the one attached to the rear of the diff housing.
Look to see if the bushing is pushed out of its housing...I would actually suggest removing it to inspect.

As for anything that you should replace. If its rubber, replace it. After that, check your pinion angle.
