  • Bo-port 1.5 cam

Guys, don't know if anyone will recall but I asked several weeks ago why my car might have a miss at high rpm that began at 4250. Several guys said, "valve springs are weak".

So, I ordered some boport replacements and then the 1.5 cam. I've been running the Ranger cam for probably 4 years and I do like it, nice torquey cam retarded 4 degree's, but it stalls out on power after 5k.

The new boport 1.5 cam I installed over the Christmas holidays, Yowsa! I must recommend this cam. I did lose some torque off idle, but the power and torque are way up when you get to 3.5k and beyond. His website claims 40 hp for a typically modded car. I'd rather have torque ratings, but that would probably have discouraged me from buying. I'd say I got every bit of the hp rating, and more torque higher up in the rpm band.

Anywhere the car would spin the tires prior, it does effortlessy now. Made a really impressive jump in performance where I didn't think a cam grind would make that big of a deal. I'd been let down by Esslinger and Racer Walsh previously.

Idle's fine w/ a touch of lope, vacuum drops to 12 from Ranger's 18. No regrets.

      Good to Go!!!

My local head guy called yesterday and said my head was finished - complete with the new Boport 1.5!!! Good to hear that it is working as or better than expected.

Most likely going to use a ported inline intake to see how that combination works.

Thanks for sharing your feedback. A Boport head/cam combo is next on my "to-do" list for the '85 9L to go with my fresh Evergreen turbo still sitting on the shelf. Can't wait!!

Hope to be there. October will be busy again for me this year. Won't know til then. However, I do plan on being a regular attendee again, and a member like the old days, etc.
