  • 3" replacement Y-Pipe

I should be gettting a 3" DP for the SVO here shortly. I plan to run catless (track car) and I need a 3" to 2 1/2" replacement Y-pipe. Where did you guys get yours? Would a Flowmaster 3"-(2) 2 1/2" collector work? TIA.

Not to sound too much like a novice, but can you answer
some questions for me? The downpipe goes between the
engine and the Y-pipe? Does the Y-pipe have built-in
cats and/or the oxygen sensors? I am curious.

the O2 sensor is on the wastegate housing.

there are 2 different lengths the downpipe can come in

1 is the one CornerCarver is talking about, it goes from the wastegate, all the way to the Y pipe, and does not use a cat.

2 is a shorter pipe that goes from the waste gate to the cat. It is recomended to run a 3" high flow cat with this pipe, or the gain isn't much.

Scott, To answer your question: the y-pipe runs from the down pipe to the mufflers. The cat is in the down pipe, not in the y-pipe.

Basically the system starts at the turbo and its outlet elbow, next piece is the down pipe w/cat (factory), next is the y-pipe/mufflers/tailpipe assembly (this assembly is usually welded together).

First upgrade for any SVO is getting a better down pipe, which is where the main restriction is, then you can address the y-pipe to tailpipe assembly. All I can say is that the factory cat-back dual system (85.5-86) can support 270hp w/o any loss of HP. I tested this theory on my car by disconnecting the y-pipe from my catless 3" DP at the dragstrip. My MPH before and after remained the same, so invest your money in other items where you will better bang for the buck.

I haven't seen any listings for the SVO y-pipe in a long, long time. You can try calling around to some of the manufacturers (i.e.- MAC, Borla, etc) and see if anyone offers one off-the-shelf. If not, have your local muffler shop make one up. Shouldn't cost much.

I use a 3" to 2-2.5" Y from Flowmaster....it is original a Camaro listing and can be made to work by your exhaust shop. This gives you the basic "Y" and you can make the rest from there....
