  • Performance Clutch

I'm working on a 2.3 turbo thats been modified to produce 300+ H.P. at the rear wheel. Currently, It has a motorsport clutch and pressure plate with +-10,000 miles on it. I'm wondering if this clutch has the ability to last with this power, and while the motor is out, I'm debating on replacement of the clutch.

    1. What clutches are available.

    2. What clutch will handle this power.

    3. What clutch will give me the best feel and drivability.

    Thanks for you replies!

Well, I just smoked my Motorsport clutch that was right about where yours is in terms of miles.

And im going to try the Star stage 2 with a stage 3 plate.

I will have to see how she does, but the overall opinion wont come for a few months yet. I did my homework on these, in fact Jim McCool ( 11 sec Turbo GT ) runs a stage 3 and broke an axle on his....so ya know that thats a pretty good indication that they G-R-A-B !

We'll see how she does, but i have heard nothing but rave reviews of these beauties.

If you go the Star route don't forget to get the aluminum flywheel to go along with it. I just replaced my flywheel, clutch and drive shaft with the Star Stage 3, aluminum flywheel and FMS aluminum drive shaft.. The flywheel weighs in at 9lbs compared to 21lbs for the stocker. The driveshaft shaves 11lbs. (24.5lbs-13.5lbs)
I'm on a serious weight reduction kick.
If you buy the clutch kit and flywheel together they will cut a deal on the pair.

          Performance clutch

Are there any balancing problems with an aluminum flywheel? Is it "detroit matched"? Are these flywheels a factor in the balancing of the reciprocating mass?
          Thanks

            Stage 2 vs. Stage 3

            Gator,

What's the difference between a stage 1,2,3,4? What are the benifits of mixing stages? I'm sure your looking for clutch feel and drivability.

            Thanks

I have an alum flywheel - it's a bolt in item. kinda expensive - but it does produce an immediate noticable result. There's NO balancing problem.
