  • ...question about NOS wheel and center pad.

Threr is an NOS steering wheel and center pad for sale in EBAY. My question is, my original steering wheel and center pad is flat leather covering, the one in EBAY appears to have some "grain" in the leather for the wheel and center pad. I know the person selling it and I know he is an honest guy/seller. Is it possible that the leather in the steering wheels and center pad changed from year to year or original from factory as opposed to replacement part from FORD?. I do have an interest in the wheel since it does look better than mine even though mine is perfect. Thanks for your opinions.

There are differences in Grain depending on production run and if there was a change in suppliers(not sure that there was a change on the leather). I have seen numerous differences in grain...remember leather is a cow hide and therefore not all leather is going to be identical. About 4-5 years ago(I think...it's been a while)....I had purchased a number of NOS steering wheels and horn pads that had more of a grain than other original wheels and pads that I had seen. I know they were correct since I was the first person to remove them from the boxes.

Not everyone is aware of this and back then I had some yahoo in AZ try to tell me it was a reproduction(when NONE existed) based on the misinformation and promises he read of a reproduction on a Southern California website and want money back based on that over a month after he had received it and installed it, sold it to a friend and bought it back. Needless to say I told said "yahoo" where to go after all that.

But Ralph....no worries...there are differences in grains between hides used....as long as you can trust the seller and it is in fact NOS and not a rewrap...and you MUST have NOS...then don't worry.

If you want a rewrapped one at a fraction of what an NOS one goes for, drop me a line

If you want a pic of what my rewrapped wheel looks like, let me know...

...NOS steering wheel and center pad...

...Hi Paul, it is nice to hear from you once in a while....I know who is the "yahoo" you are talking about..lol....I know him too...
My wheel was recovered about 6 years ago by sacramento Mustang and it was very well done..as a matter of fact it matches (flat leather) the original center pad, which made me very happy..I think I paid about $280 or so....
You know me, always looking for NOS parts...and this fellow is reliable, I have done business with in the past...
How much do you think it will be a fair price for my "recovered" wheel and original center pad, if i put them in EBAY?....
I will email you for some KONI advice...lol

        Paul...

I'd love to see those pics of the re-covered wheel. I have been looking for a recovering option for a while now. Just not quite ready to move on it just yet...looking for the most cost-effective way to do it.

        Thanks, in advance,

          Ralph,

I purchased an NOS center pad about 6 years ago at Carlise. I didn't notice any real difference. Too bad the cows don't have all the same texture. Even on the new cars, they tend to vary quite a bit.
