After having the barber cut (what he called) my titanium hairs off the side of my head today, not too sure I'm qualified to answer this one.
Anyone already done a conversion to the 8.8 3rd member?
3rd member? That's a new one on me. But, swapping a 8.8 rear is a bolt on (unless it's in early 84 slapper bar car). Use your stock axles and then bend some new brake lines.
BTW - what's up with posting a pic of a flaming Pantera?
A 7.5 to 8.8 is fairly simple. I converted my 85 GT convert and it took about 1.5 hours. Granted I retained the 4 lug drum brakes but just follow Bud's advice and you should have no problems.
the 3rd member rearends (if I remember my useless chevy info) is a rear-end that chevy used, and it was easy to change gear ratios, because all you had to do was swap one gear (the third member).
Road racers like them because of the ease to change ratios for different courses.
But ask me if it would fit in a 8.8 ford carier ??? I have no idea!!
Ask me if you could swap a entire rear ?? I really have no freaking idea.. but I would bet you would lose your disc brake mounts...,and you would probably have to have custom axles, and tubes...
