  • anybody know how many bottles of rear gear synthetic I should buy?

-been putting this off, but need to go ahead and get this done. No problems or sounds, just preventive maintanence.

    I've got the friction modifier.

How many quarts? Mobil 1 or Castrol preference?

Man what a stinky job! I don't look forward to it.

Why didn't Ford just splurge a bit and put a drain on it? Bah!

    thanks!

3.75 pints is what it's supposed to take. We used one bottle of Differential fluid and one friction modifier and it seemed to be the correct amount.

      yep, --
4 pint bottles is what I bought---

take one of the pint bottles, and put about 1/4 of it in the rear,

then take the friction modifier, and mix it with the rest of that bottle.. I usually do this with the first pint bottle, to make sure I don't get it too full to get all the friction modifier in..

I probaby had half a pint left when I was done

I use Redline in my cobra supposed to be one of the best but that's what they all say.

Yeah I heard Redline was supposed to be the best also but after talking to several people who used it and said they didn't like it I decided against it.

                    Redline

I did a 7.5 to 8.8 swap and used Redline. It has been in there for 8 years now, and I haven't had any problems with it.

Off topic weird gear lube stuff...

I'm sure all us humans think gear lube stinks. A weird thing I've found is every time I change the lube if I don't pour it into a closed container it draws mice. I use a large flat pan ( about 5" x 18" x 24" ) and they jump in and drown... It's happened 3 times so far... Maybe it's just them Georgia mice?

I live in GA, but I have a cat that lives in our garage - so no mice.

                          The cat's name is "Turbo".

How cool is that (and I'm not even a cat person)?

My garage is a dangerous place! I have suicidal mice, black widow spiders, scorpions, hornets, and wasps. It looks like the Munster's house with all the spider webs. As some of you know I've been away from my house / garage with family problems. The couple of weekends I've been able to be up there I've been wearing my long arm leather welding gloves when moving parts around. Selling off my spare parts is hazardous work!
