  • Securing Battery??

Can anyone recommend a product or method for securing down the battery on a 84 SVO?

Tech inspection at Autocross wants a more secure method.

    Thanks

It is kind of hard to beat the factory setup for holding down the battery in your car. Do you still have the stock battery tray?

Is it bolted down right? Is it one of the parts house universal ones with the hold down bar across the battery?

You can go to the dealer and buy a new tray or hit the junk yards and grab the tray and hold down hardware from any Mustang up until 93.

The battery at first seemed to be the wrong size for the factory set up. But, after taking the tray and clamp apart, I don't think the battery is the wrong size. I think the clamp has been partially cut off, which is why it won't hold the battery in place.

Does anyone have a picture of what the clamp is suppose to look like?

      Thanks

I dont have a pic right now.. .i can have one Monday..

basically the clamp is just a wedge... the bottom of the battery should also have wedges (in the oppisite direction) on it too, on both sides.

the back of the battery should slide all the way back against the tray, and the back should lock against the tray.

then you place the clamp in, with the wedge side towards the battery, and that should lock the battery in place...

        sounds easy enough... right ???

I'm pretty sure my problem is a broken/partially missing clamp. I would still like to see the picture if possible for verification.

          Thanks

It just hit me that my 93 ranger has the exact same battery hold down setup.

I can get you a pic of that tonight.

As of about 3 years ago, the clamp and bolt was still available from Ford. I _think_ the tray was still available, too. I have used the factory parts on our 86 since then, and have had NO problems in 3 years of at least once-a-month autocrossing with DOT R-compound tires on our car.
Yep, it looks a bit odd, the the bolt looks like it will protrude through the hood, but everything works well with the factory size battery.

                Battery Secured

I bought a new battery clamp today from my local Ford dealer. It is completely different from what was on the car.

I thank everyone for all their help!!!!!
