I lucked into a near perfect set of wheels off a 96 cobra at the Columbus swap meet back in April. They still had the stock Goodyears on them (245/50/17s). The bigger tires and wheels looked great, but the fronts rubbed when turning and going over bumps, so I took them off until this weekend.
I don't want to roll the fenders or change suspension on the car so I started looking for some good tires that would "plus-size" onto the 17 inch wheels. I really wanted F1s, but they are expensive and hard to find in a 225/45/17 size. The guy at Goodyear recommended Dunlop SP Sport FM901s. Their rankings on the Rack are close to the F1s. Well they arrived on Saturday and I had them put on the car yesterday afternoon. It rained all day so I didn't get to work them in until today. My initial impressions of the Dunlops are they handle well, are not too loud, and seem sticky enough. They look good too. Until now, my only driving experience in SVO was on 17 year old factory Gatorbacks. Damn, I love this car!
More rubber would have been better, but this is a nice compromise. What do you think?
Wheels: 17x8 OEM Cobras
Tires: Dunlop SP Sport FM901 225/45/17 (plus-sized to stock)
Suspension: stock

Yes it could have been the driver, the rain and the tires. I am still trying to shake that one off..
Hey Eric, they are more like nightmares, and yes I still have them. Sometimes I wake up looking over my shoulder screaming NOOOOOOOOO!
