  • Tokico Illumina's vs. Koni

Any thoughts on this. I have the opportunity to get a set of Tokico Illumina 5 Way adjustable (I think they have just 5 settings) shocks.

I'm getting my Koni's revalved to stiffer/Yellow specs.

Has anyone used both and have an opinion (these will go on my track ONLY car).

    Thanks!
Hoping to get on the track soon

    I've run both

Illuminas worked great until you bottomed the shock out. If you bottom the Tokico shock out, the red plastic adjusting tab will blow out, followed by hydraulic fluid.

I haven't used the Tokicos but I prefer the infinite adjustability of the Konis as opposed to the 5 distinct clicks of the Tokicos.
Pat, shouldn't the suspension bump stops bottom before the strut?

        bump stops

Yes, you would think so, but bump stops sometimes have a lesser effect ot "Tiger Teeth" or FIA rumble strips.

hey says shocks, so I assume he means REARS!!

the click system on the rear may actually be easier to adjust..

are they adjustable from the top of the shock, or do you have to take them off to adjust them ???

Shock or strut doesn't matter, same outcome. After working with Tokico years ago with the Illuminas, I had them send me the green ones (non adjustable rally style shocks) for the front and I used the Browns on the rear. This was the only acceptable setup that would last in SCCA Escort 24 hour endurance races. This combo qualified on the pole at Atlanta, Brainerd, and Mid Ohio.
