Sorry to see that happened. Were you using some sort of strong solvent i.e. acetone, methyl ethyl keytone, or lacquer thinner to clean the area? What about Castrol Super Clean? It will also remove paint and dissolve some plastics.

I don't have my SVO in front of me here at the computer and am having trouble visualizing exactly the look of the texture you have removed from the console panel area that surrounds the switches. As I remember, it is kind of a quasi-vinyl grain/pebbly sort of texture.

First thing to do is to remove the console from the car and take out the switches and clock.

Next, you are going to need some of the matching Ford SVO gray interior paint in a spray can. Paul at SVPU sells it and you can also buy it from Ford.

You are also going to need something to retexture the area with.
Go to a GOOD professional auto body and paint supply store. There is a spray can product made for retexturing molded plastic door panels that have rotted in the sun and lost their embossed textured pattern. Can't remember who makes it, SEMA may be one source.

Next, mask off and spray the rectangular area surrounding the switch and clock locations with the texture spray. You will first want to practice on a piece of scrap plastic or formica until you get the hang of laying on the texture coating. A more uniform pattern may result if you first sand the remaining texture off of the rectangular area surrounding the clock and switches. Play with it and experiment a bit before you do it on the console area.

Let the texture coating dry per mfg. directions. Spray the matching SVO interior paint over it, to match the color of the rest of the console.

In fact, it may be a good idea to first practice both the texture coating and the color coat on a piece of scrap until you are happy with the result, BEFORE attempting to do it on the console.

Let the color coat dry. Reassemble and reinstall the switches, clock and put the console back inthe car.

I am going to look into the texturing stuff you are talking about

I used castrol super clean and a tooth brush and it came off

you said you can get the spray from ford, do you know the part #
I have nothing against paul but to get the stuff sent to me is a 30 dollar border processing fee on top of the cost and I also don't think they take to kindly to spray cans being sent air mail and I also get a Ford employee discount

If I can't get it there I guess that means I will HAVE to go to the reunion and pick it up there

I have a can of the Ford stuff handy. I'll try to post a pic tomorrow. The Ford stuff works great. I never tried any of the other stuff.

I have a can from Ford in my garage. Right now I'm about 100 miles away from there. I'll be back Monday evening and give you the part number if KevinK hasn't posted it by then.

Do they still sell laquer paint in Canada? It's been illegal here in CA for several years now. If so, you might have a body and paint supply custom mix some interior paint up for you.
