  • Steering issues.

I have been experiencing some steering issues over the last couple of months. I've noticed that the steering effort while moving feels "easier" to the right as opposed to the left The car also feels like it more agile and handles better while turning to the left. It should be noted that at a stand still I feel the same amount of resistance in both directions. Can an improper alignment cause this phenomenon? I had the car lined up before Carlisle but I don't think they did such a great job. The car seems to track straight, but the steering wheel is still crooked. If I straighten the wheel the car veers to the left. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for the responses.

    alignment can certainly cause it.

Tires can also be a cause.

I went through 3 alignments before I got a good one.

Before spending money on alignment, possible tire/wheel related issues should be eliminated.

Tires can take a "set" with age and use and pull to one side or the other. After checking and adjusting proper inflation has been tried, rotate the tires from side to side and see if it pulls in the other direction. If it does, alignment isn't the problem.

Pat, the only problem with rotating them from side to side is that they're directional tires. I can only rotate from front to back. I guess I'll try that first.

Somehow I figured you'd say that, LOL!

            4 wheel alignment

Even though the SVO is a "solid" rear axle design they should always check it as a 4 wheel alignment. If there is a bent or worn component in the rear suspension or a torque box out of position the car will act as you described. Check your tires for abnormal wear also. This can help identify which wheel is pulling and which wheel is pushing. Has the car ever been wrecked? While it is a unibody it can still have a bent "frame" although all it has technically is subfames. Just a few ideas...
