Can anyone help me out with some info please, the master cylinder on my 82 GT 5.0 has blown a seal, a friend has one from an 84/85 SVO that he bought to use on his 88 GT but never got around to.
Will the SVO unit bolt straight in or am I better off rebuilding the stock 82 GT unit?
Many thanks,
Don
(UK SVO)
Meant for rear disc brakes, the SVO master cylinder lacks the residual pressure check valve that is needed for cars with drum style rear brakes. You will probably encounter problems in that regard.
Many thanks for your reply Pat, I'll probably buy the SVO part as a spare anyhow but at least I know not to go trying to fit it to my 82! I'll try to get a master cylinder rebuild kit this week so at least I can enjoy roof out driving for whats left of the British Summer (I guess maybe a day or so!)
Thanks again.
Hi Kiwi, thanks for your reply.
Its tough work owning Mustangs over here, just think how much you pay for parts, double (and sometimes treble) that to add postage, then add half that value in UK customs charges and you will understand why!
On a recent trip to the States I visited Paul at SVPU where I bought a 3" exhaust for my SVO. We had to cut it in half to fit in the suitcase! I also bought a door glass for my 82 GT (mine got broken when my stereo was stolen) an edelbrook manifold, motorsport cam, brake hoses, electric mirrors licence plates and christ knows what else! I had to leave most of my clothes at the motel!
It saved me a fortune on post and customs charges, but it did create quite a stir going through the x ray machine at both airports!!
Heres a pic of my SVO,
all the best,
Don
