  • Making enough Boost?

86 SVO – Less than 30,000 miles -This is my first SVO. From what I have read they will build 15 psi of boost. Should they build that much at the Turbo gauge, or is that only what the turbo is capable of producing up to? When switched to premium, the gauge will only build to 11 psi @ 5500 rpm’s. When switched to regular it builds less boost (from what I have read, this is correct). I diagnosed the boost solenoid using an 86 Ford shop manual, and it checked out fine. The hoses are OK and the T-fitting on the turbo does not appear to have a blockage. Maybe this is all a stock SVO is supposed to build at the gauge. I’m not sure! Please provide any information that you can.

Your turbo should be able to produce way more boost. 11psi is a little low. Double check your hoses and check your wastegate. Oh yeah, where are you in NC. I'm here in Jacksonville.

smitty-I'm in winston salem. The only way I checked the waste gate was to move it to make sure it was not hanging. Do you have another way?

Ford boost controlers are known for being inaccurate...

for that matter, all Ford gauges are known for being inaccurate..

if the boost controler is showing less boost when the switch is flipped to normal, I'd say everything is working right.

You might try hooking up a aftermarket boost gauge of some kind..to see if you are getting good readings.

there was a article in the last newsletter on how to adjust your boost gauge, but that is a members only secret
