  • Alternatives to MAC 3" Exhaust

After waiting for MAC to ship a 3" system to me for two months and being told again that its going to be another two weeks I decided to cancel my order.

What alternatives are there out there for a mandrel bent 3" exhaust system for an 85 SVO? I just want a 3" single exhaust. I already have a cat and a downpipe as well as Bob's 3" downturn for the turbo I just need the catback to complete the system. Problem being that I don't have 500 dollars to spend to buy it and the MAC system was pretty affordable.

I haven't had a chance to look under the car but is it possible to just put a straight 3" pipe and an Ultraflow after the cat and have it dump before the axle?

I'm not too worried about it droning or being a bit loud as long as its not regularly going to get me pulled over.

Any affordable alternatives or will my idea work?

    Have you...

looked for any resellers of MAC products? I have the MAC 3" setup on my 84 and am pretty happy with it. It is initially a pain in the *** to get installed correctly (without banging around) but is nice once sorted out.

I bought mine from PNRvegas, but would NOT recommend going that route to you.

I'm sure someone here can point you in the right direction.

      Maybe try here....

You basically need 1/2 of the 79-93 5.0, 3" kit. Maybe they will sell it to you?

I lost the number, but somewhere in Ohio there's a company called Asphalt Jungle that sells the hard part (from the muffler back) in 3 inch. Oh, here it is! Dunno if this number is current and I don't know the quality.

        Asphalt Jungle
        Cuyahoga falls, OH.

        fax# (330)928-1196

As far as the cat goes, is it in the original location? Either way, you're not likely to find any bolt on system, and the local muffler shop will be needed to finish off between the cat and the muffler anyways. On the 84/85 I got rid of the two 90*+ bends before & after the cat and replaced them with two 45* bends on either side of a Catco 3 inch cat. The 45* 3-inch bends are available from Walker or NAPA. A straight tube connected it to a 3-inch turbo muffler mounted in the stock location. A turndown at that point was too noisy for me so I made a 3-inch over axle pipe and that was a pain. Buy that over axle part and save some time.

Anyone try fitting the 'universal' 3" tailpipe kit from Flomaster? It's available at summit.

I think I'm going to give it a shot unless I hear otherwise.
The BATFE should be a convenience store.
