I didn't think SVOs had cruise, but this one sure does:

It looks like they put the controls on the turn signal switch.
I'd like to put cruise on my '84 SVO, what cars can I look for in the junkyard that have the cruise control turn signal switch?

I have an '84 GT parts car, but the cruise is on the steering wheel. I could probably use the other parts off this car like the cable/vaccum unit, and the little control box.

    looks dealer installed???
I think it would be best to pull all the stuff from a non-turbo 2.3L (then the correct throttle linkage can be used). I'd avoid cars like XR4ti, and stick w/ a normal mustang.

Cruise was dealer installed option. I bought the kit from Ford dealer and installed it myself. The turn signal stalk shown was included in the kit.

I've seen a few installed but no one has yet to convince me of a factory one. It was on the option list when I ordered my 84 but it was one of those, " I doubt it will get through on the order" . It may have even gotten kicked back on my order.

Several SVO guys have done the install. All were stalk mounted, I believe. You could even get dealer installed AC.

Hmmm, sounds like it will be pretty hard to find then, unless other 2.3 mustangs had them factory.

Bill Hatfield did have a NOS (in the box) cruise set up for sale. You might try PMing him if you're interested in it .. dunno if he still has it. His screen name is sweetwm.

BTW - I do believe the parts used were from TCs.

Like Bud mentioned, most of the parts are probably common to the 2.3 FOX platform. This includes Fairmonts, Turbo coupes etc. Don't over look those option loaded Mercury products too. My guess the stalk switch would be the hardest to find and maybe the controller if there is one. The stalk might be universal to all the dealer installed.

As I recall when I purchased my SVO in 84, Ford did offer a dealer installed cruise control kit. It was a universal kit, designed to install on any of the Mustangs or Tbirds of that time. It used a control stalk that replaced the turn signal stalk. It was called Ford Command Cruise Control, Base Part Number 9A818, suggested retail price (not installed) $139.70. I wish I had bought one back then!
