  • Fitment with '02 V6 wheels

Looked at a set of 5-spoke wheels on an '02 3.8 mustang today. They're 16" and come with 225 55 tires OEM. Does the backspacing on these tend to be SVO friendly or not?
They're not bad looking. As good as 17" wheels look on a car, I don't think the increase in rotating mass is worth the cosmetic tradeoff of oversizing the OEM wheel.
The BATFE should be a convenience store.

Just put a set on my 84 SVO today including the tire size you mentioned. The tires do stick out a little more but so far I haven't had any rubbing at all. I'll try to attach a picture below.

      Nice looking car RK.
      Ben,
Same wheels on my car, no problems with lowered (slightly) suspension and 225/60 tires w/7.5 rear.
I recently put in 8.8 rear w/new springs. It seems that if I decide to lower the car again the wheels will be of concern because of the 8.8s extra width.

Duhhh!!!! Why dont ya put a 5.0 in that car George???

        Ray,

I see you finally got those rims. They look real nice on your ride.

        Bendutro,

I also have them on my car with Eibach lowering springs and have had no problems. I have the stock size tires on them though, 225 50 x 16.

The rims are 1/2" wider than stock, but fit with no problems for me.

I've got a set of '01/'02 GT Wheels and I'm wondering if I'll run into any problems. I'm guessing since you didn't have any I should be okay.

Question - what needs to be modified if anything? Is it the wheel itself or the hub? I've attached a pic of the wheels in question.

yeah, how about the 18x9.5 2000 cobra r wheels? i thought i read somewhere that someone tried puttin bullit gt wheels on and had to machine out the center and get a custom center cap!!! but does the backspacing interfere a lot? would the width of these be too much? i dont want to have to modify brand new wheels. and i dont want it to look like a lowrider which is typical with wheel spacers.

To fit 2000 Cobra R 18 X 9.5 wheels you will have to switch to SN- 95 brakes, rotors and spindles and flare the fenders. It's just too darn big to fit under an SVO without extensive rework. Some of the aftermarket suppliers, like AFS and 5.0 Resto have a replica 18" 2000 Cobra R wheel in a slightly more narrow size that will fit SVO's without such extensive modifications.

Heres a shot of my 85 with those 02 V6s

I run 225/50/16 stock size. They work great but the offset is so wide mine rub over big bumps with the slightest weight in the back such as my speakers or a passenger. So i hammered the lip of the fenders in (rolled) and no more rubbys.

Good pics Turbizzy but isn't that due to too little offset though, not too much?
I thought the more offset there was, the closer to the outer egde of the wheel the hub would be.

                        offset

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/offset.htm I was actually thinking about this today because I'm trying to figure out what I have to do to fit the FR500 wheels on. http://www.steeda.com/store/-catalog/FR500wheel.htm

From the wheel specs, 18" X 9" with 5.97" backspacing, I can tell you that the FR500 wheel won't fit in the unmodified wheelwell of an SVO without sticking out too far. To fit in the SVO wheelwell it would need more like 6.25" of backspace. Also looking at the picture of the wheel, the hub design appears to be the narrow SN-95 type that won't fit over the wheel bearing cap on the large SVO front hubs.

Yes, you probably could make it fit by switching to SN-95 brakes and spindles and using a regular 79-93 Mustang K member and shorter 84-93 lower arms to move the wheel inboard to make up for the lack of backspaceing. It might even be possible to machine .25" off the inside face of the rim to gain backspacing, but what a job!

Nice wheel though. Reminds me of the 2003 -04 Corvette Z-06 rims! I'll bet AFS or some of the other aftermarket companies make a Z-06 replica rim in the right backspacing to fit an SVO.

i think the wheels are supposed to mimic the 65 gt styled steel wheels

                              Weight of the V-6 wheels?

Does anyone happen to know the weight of these v-6 wheels?
                              TIA,
