  • Compressor Bypass Valve kits

    Hey guys!

Anyone know of a Compressor Bypass Kit out there other than the one offered by Tiny Avenger?

I just installed a cold air intake from Motion Dynamics (Nice unit), but now I get alot of compressor surge when I let off the throttle.

Just curious as to what options are available, would appreciate the input.

Thanks, in advance, for your help, guys!

you could make your own bypass set up. just go to your local parts supply store and order a BOSCH bypass valve. Here are the part numbers:

    0280142102
    0280142103
    0280142104
    0280142105
All of the above are used in SAABs 1986-2001 and rated for 15 psi and under.
    0280142108 (used in some porsches)
    0280142110 (higher boost version)

The tiny avenger unit uses the *******102 number valve. His kit is as about as bolt on friendly as it gets though.

      Lonchair,

Thanks for the reply! I was curious what is involved in installing the unit? Are you tapping a hole in the intercooler or something?

I don't know much about them...don't even know where it hooks up?

Do you have any info (drawing or pic)?

      Would appreciate any help here!!!!

      Thanks,

I have the tiny avenger kit and it has a collar that clamps inbetween the VAM and the turbo inlet. This collar has a mount for a 1" hearer hose that you clamp the bypass valve to. The other part of the kit is a 1" brass fitting that you attach to the intercooler by drilling and tapping into the end tank. Here is a diagram that will explane it better.

          Lon,

          I like the drawing...very nice.

Just one question. Where is that vacuum line running to? And are you tapping into something else, or is that something that is already there? Can you please explain?

I appreciate all your help, by the way.

If you had it to do all over again, would you buy the TA kit or do it yourself? Just curious...

Thanks again for your help, and if I could just figure out where that vacuum line goes..

          later,

The vacume hose is a new hose that just plus into the vacume tree on the firewall. As far as doing it over again, I would get the Tiny Avenger kit cause all the R&D was done for me and in a cottage industry like ours, vender support is never a bad thing.

The main thing that I lke about the TA kit is the collar that fits in line with the vane air meter.

              Lon,

              Thanks again for your responses!

I think I will contact Dave at TA and order that kit. It seems to be the nicest one out there. It looks pretty straight forward to install as well. (Thanks to your post!!!)

So, you're running one of these, right? It does get rid of that horrible surge noise from the compressor? Even at higher, or more prolonged boost? Please advise, and thanks again for your help!

"The tiny avenger unit uses the *******102 number valve."[B]

Does this mean that the bypass valve will only blead 15psi max. back? Will a car running 18psi boost still have 3psi pushing the compressor wheel?
Would someone running 24psi with a bigger turbo have to use one of the other valves?
If it ain't broke... Give me some time!

I have a short writeup on the bosch bypass valve at my svo web page, and have a 'gus' diagram on how you can run higher boost (I'm running 18psi) than the bosch valve can take. Been running it for a year now without any problems.

I made my own bypass, and the collar I have is simply a 6" long piece of 3" exhaust pipe (fits nicely inside wire hose that you have to cut from the VAN to the turbo, just make sure you tuck the wire between the house and pipe so it won't come loose) and weld a pipe coupling.

BTW, my own opinion, but the tiny avenger diagram has the bypass pointed the wrong way. The pressure side should be the opposite of the end that the vac line goes to, not the one off the side. This is the way my vortech has it, and every other bypass I've seen has the plunger facing the boost end, not on the side.

A bypass is a good thing, you'll really like it.
