Strut rebuild cartridges

I bought the strut cartridges from autozone because my struts are BLOWN. I am planning on converting to SN95 suspension with a possibility of coilovers but definately Konis and just bought those for now. Anyways, i seem to be having trouble removing the old cartridge. Anyone here done this before?!?! Am i suppose to loosen the nut at the top that seems to be holding the cartridge? Cuz i did that, with a pipe wrench like the instructions said to do but then the nut just snapped right off and the cartridge is still in there with the other part of the nut. Am i suppose to drill out that little spot weld thats on the side of the housing? Also, the housing says not to open, does this mean dont do what i am trying to do? I dunno, im confuse. If someone has done this before, let me know what you did, i need my car running ASAP.
