  • Brake Job!

Hey guys got the brakes changed! i noticed that the drivers cal was hard to push in? So pulled it off and pulled it down! The piston is very pitted, so sanded and sanded the bore. It cleaned up well! tried it works good. You think it would be good idea to get new pistons on that cal? Or just get a rebuilt cal with plastic pistons? I am trying to get it straight for the trip to Richmond Ky! Let me know I want it right the safe way! Thanks

as long as the piston was in good shape, and the bore cleaned up good, you should be in good shape

I would just replace the caliper with a rebuilt one. I saw them on Kragen Autoparts web site for ~$26 each with the steel piston. I believe Kragen is part of PartsAmerica which includes Checkers and Advance I believe.

You can also get a rebuild kit, but it is cheaper just to get the caliper complete.

The part numbers are: 184258 for DS and 184257 for PS.

        Rebuilt Calipers!

I got the rebuilt ones with steel pistons. Man how have I been driving this car? Big difference! And now the parking brake works with slight pull up! Cal were $69.99 each plus the $35.00 core until you bring back the old ones! Still not a bad price to drive. Thanks guys for all the help.Oh almost forgot when going to buy rubber cups for cal pins look up 86 Lincoln Mark VII they still show listin but not the SVO. Jeff Dunevant
