O Boost/ego

Looking for some help on why my o boost/ego light comes on randomly. Sometimes it will come on and stay on when I first start the car, makes no difference if it is a cold or warm start, doesn't seem to have a set pattern to it. Any helpful advice out there.? thanks in advance

I have had the same thing happen. Have you performed any modifications to the boost controller or increased the amount of boost? I haven't figured this one out yet and the car has been apart for a few months for maintenance - out sight, out of mind! Keep me posted on what you find. I sure I'll have to deal with it when the car is back together.

Mine would do that if it was a little low on oil...(less than a quart)

It would stay on until I either added oil, or changed the oil. I thought at first, it was a coincidence, but it happened every time, and ever since I have kept a closer eye on the oil level (wasn't sure why it was low, and have since fixed that problem) it never happens any more!

Don't know if this is your problem, or if it acts similar, but it fixed mine.

Have not done any mods to the boost controller or increased boost at this time. I do have a Gillis adj. boost valve that I have been wanting to get installed, figured I should try to solve the o boost/ego light problem first. Also, I think the oil level is ok but I will double check it friday , hopefully that is the problem. thanks

Not all SVOs came with the OverBoost/EGO 'dummy' light. Some had the OIL light in the exact same location on the dash panel. Thus, why RICH's SVO would show a light on when the oil was low...

I don't know when/why/etc as to why some had a low oil sensor wired there and others had the EGO light there....but, they did produce dash panels with either.

Mine is for the OBOOST, I've seen it come on for this reason (over +-18 lbs boost & it says OBOOST/EGO). I have hear of this oil light, and have also heard that this might lead to the reason way this light is coming on sporadically - during the transformation of OBOOST/EGO to oil light, the wiring of the two might occur simultaneously ( or something to that effect) and allow this problem to occur - have I been misled?:eek:

um...both wired for the same light? new one on me....I've never SEEN it done - so I can't really comment on iffin you've been misled.

Changed the oil this past Monday before I left on vacation (Hot Rod Power Tour) and I have put over 800 miles on the car the past few days and the o'boost/ego light has not come on once. It does seem that it must be an oil level indicator since the light has not come on. The oil level was a bit low before i did the change.
Also, does the SVO require 5 or 5.5 quarts of oil. thanks

My 86 has the oil label on that light.....if it is a quart low, the light comes on....ALSO, when I boost over 17.5psi, that same light lights up along with the overboost buzzer.....So, on my car it is a dual purpose light and I have made no modifications from stock in that area.....
