    New Hatch Struts

Autozone has them: Mighty Lift Hatch Strut # C95066 for $16.99 each.

50resto also sells them if you'd rather order on line: # LRS-40610A for $15.95 each.

They were the first thing to fail outside the warranty on my car. The Ford ones were pretty pricey at $40 each 10 years ago.

They are kind of like the battery in a car you plan on keeping for a long time. You just bought one and you know you will by another not too far down the road.

          Hatch Strut Replacement

I know what you mean Kevin. My original owner 84 SVO turns 20 next month. I'm on my 4th set of hatch struts and my 3rd battery.
Hatch struts are just one of those periodic replacement items. At least they're relatively cheap compared to some of the parts for these cars!

when your guy'ses struts went out did they feel like they were on upside down. because it is pretty easy to go up for like 6 inches then it has like back force on it.and is super heavy.

              Hatch Struts

Yep, that is the first stage they go through. The second stage is that they won't keep the hatch up and it keeps falling on your head. Ouch!

Be smart and replace BOTH of your hatch struts before it gets to stage 2!

The previous owner of my 84, which has the original hatch struts, left a baseball bat in the trunk. It didn't take long to find out what it was used for (ouch!).

i called checker and they said that they dont have any for a svo but they said they do have ones for just a normal hatch back.
do you think those would work?

                      GT

Get the GT ones they are set up to handle the spoiler. For a few bucks more I would go to the 50resto and get the struts strike plate and new seal. Just make it new is my moto.

The ones for a GT Hatchback should work just fine.
