  • Front Clip Swap

Does anyone ever swap the front clip from a
mid-80s Mustang GT or LX onto their SVO?
(Or whatever year Fox model clip may work.)

For someone not worried about keeping their
car in factory stock condition, it seems like a
good alternative to paying insane prices for
    stock replacement headlights.

I also, please hold back the flames, feel the
GT and LX front clips look better, too.

usually, clipping a car requires cutting and welding..

all you really need is hood and nose.

I believe any year from 79- 86 should work..

If you go newer than that, I'm not sure... but I dont think there were any differences in the front sheetmetal up to 93...

You might want to stay away from 79-84 because of the dual headlights, and wiring issues...

You shouldn't get flamed too much... anything to save another SVO, is a good idea... even putting another front end on.

I'd personally rather see it with a different nose than parted out..

      oh yea...

I won't agree with the GT/LX front looking better...

I think the SVO is unique, and cool!!!

I will agree with the uniqueness.
I do not mind 85.5 to 86 front ends,
but I am not too fond of the 84-85.

Thanks (again) for the info, Eric.

          front clip

I took the front end off my 86 and replaced it with a 85 so that I could save the 86 for another car. It is alot easier to find the old style and headlights than it is the new type headlights. I do agree that the 86 style does look a lot better, but on a race car, what the heck. Ralph

just curious, what did you do for wiring of the headlights?

or since it was a race car, did you just not wory about it..

the hemi...you'll have to change out the Fenders as well. SVO fenders were different than any other FOX mustang. You can swap out ANY year FOX platform sheet metal - all 79-93 FOX platforms have the same unibodies. So, if you find a donor car - in the least you'll need to get the front bumper cover (including headlight mounting panel), Hood, and fenders.

as mentioned - wiriing the headlights ...or more so, new headlight plugs would be the only thing. That, and you'll need to relocate your intercooler to the front....but that'll make for a new thread "how to relocate the intercooler"

                front clip

The headlights swap is very simple. All you need is the wiring plug from the old style and splice it into the new style and the task is done. Can't take you over ten minutes to rewire. And yes I do have headlights in a race car. Ralph

I was going by the fact that that you can take stock fenders, and make them into SVO fenders with a little work...

I figured you should be able to do the same with SVO fenders

to be honest, stock fenders are so cheap, it is probably a good idea to put your svo fenders back somewhere anyway

umm....not the same Ralph. He's talking about putting a 86 GT front end on his car. It has dual headlights (ie: 4 lights total), plus the side marker lights....

It's not THAT hard....but it would require the most brain power of the swap he's planning.

shame shame shame...I know your name...Eric.

You just had your fenders off your car. You should know the mounting holes where the front facia mounts to and shorter front length is not going to easy to modify BACK to fit a GT/LX front end.

Easier to drill the holes on a LX fender and use on a SVO - than take a SVO fender and fill the holes in and add an extension to the fender.

Bud, you are completly right, I was just thinking about the extra holes...I forgot they are shorter too..

Not only did I just have my fenders off my SVO, I just pulled the allumnimum bumpers off my wrecked 79 notch, so I was looking right at the fenders on it too...

                        Somebody slap me!!!
