  • Roll Bars and Interior Panel Holes

    These instructions are based on the Autopower roll bar that is "fish mouthed" or bolt and weld design :Remove front and rear seats, console, carpet, and both rear interior panels.Postion and install complete roll bar assembly.Remove only the rear legs that attach to the wheel houses on both sides.Reinstall the rear interior panels.Using either a wooden dowel or some other long straight rigid item that is fairly small in diameter, tape a fine tip Sharpie marker to the end. I personally have used the small diameter jack handle ( tube ) from my Sears floor jack. The marker fits well into the end and remains straight while drawing the outline. Insert the other end of the dowel / handle into the open tube of the main upright roll bar where the rear legs attach / bolt up. Bring the marker into contact with the interior panel and rotate the handle / dowel around inside the tube to transfer the circle onto the interior panel.Remove the interior panels.To cut the holes I have a "Rotozip" tool which cuts through cleanly without melting the plastic. One note : Due to the initial torque "kick" of the tool on start up begin cutting in the center of the area to be removed and work your way outwards so you don't accidentally cut outside the line. This is of course not an exact science so you may have to go back once or twice to get a perfect fit. It is better to remove small amounts and enlarge as needed. You could also use some kind of sharp knife but it would probably not leave a clean cut.Reinstall the carpet. To trim the carpet around the legs simply push the carpet up the the edge of the roll bar and cut out enough to surround the base / floor mount. You can also use duct tape on the back side of the carpet to close the slit required to surround the roll bar.Loosely reinstall / lay the interior panels in the car and pass the rear legs up through the holes.Bolt up the rear legs. I use red thread locker to make sure they don't vibrate loose ( unless you want to pull it all back apart to tighten them up sometime later ).Reinstall all the panels, seats, console, etc. and you're done.Last note : This roll bar requires relocating the upper seat belt mounting bolt to the bar itself. It also pretty much makes the rear seat un-usable unless your passengers want to munch on the cross bar.

    Any pics of this installation?
    I've thought about a roll bar in my car, but need the back seat. I also want it to be stealthy, so it's not noticable immediately.
    If it ain't broke... Give me some time!

      Sorry no pics at this time... I'm still living the "Flintstones" lifestyle. I actually did this on my LX Frankenstein car but it is basically the same for all Fox bodied Mustangs. I will post some pics at some point along with my power antenna install that I promised many, many months ago. The car is still in pieces with the engine half way swapped for a crate motor.
