  • Tire help?

Guys.. time to give the SVO some new shoes... I don't have the cash for Z rated.. and am considering some sort of V rated...

Where would be the best place to pick up some (stock) tires pretty cheap?

About the best tire for the money I can find is on Tire rack.. V rated Kumho... $66 each...

    Could a fella do better?

Curious about your thoughts.. I have a nail in my front tire now.. and I'm embarassed to get it broken down and put back on the wheel!! ( ever been there?? )

    Thanks..

My tires are almost smooth right now and I'm scraping pennies together for a set of Firestone REO750s

Mergine on the freeway in the rain and having the tires spin in 4th gear is a little scary.
The BATFE should be a convenience store.

In the meantime I had a flat and I went to a used tire place and got a nice, fairly close match to my remaining tires for about $30. Only problem is that it has more tread than the others, so my car makes right turns better then lefts.

I know this doesn't sound exciting, but try the Futura series of tires at Pep Boys. The are made by Cooper and available in a speed rated tire in SVO size 225/50/16 for not a lot of money. I've had them in the past on other vehicles and they were not bad tires. The wear well and perform well. And they're cheap!

            Original Tires

Does anyone know if the original size Goodyear Gatorback tires are available or reproduced by anyone??

If you print one of the Tire Rack ads for a tire you want, take the ad to Discount Tire and they will match it. Saved me a ton of cash.

I curious, why would you tell someone, emphatically, to not shop at Tire Rack? Did you have a negative experience? Are you employed by or have affiliation with the Discount Tire chain stores? IN MY OPINION, Discount Tire and the like (NTB, Conrads, etc...) are the Wal-Mart of the automotive world with "used car salesman" mentality. Cheap, off brand crap (read: low quality) that are more than likely blems that no one else wants that they try to hock onto the uneducated buyer. How bout this advice: Set yourself a budget, educate yourself then go shopping. Get the best tire that you can afford from the vendor that offers you the most for your money.

And by the way, BFG's or Bridgestones ARE NOT the best for my money. I currently have Continental Extreme DWS on my son's SVO and they have performed perfectly in the rain and now snow that we are getting here in the Republic of Cleveland. I have a set of Dunlop SP Winter Sports on my WRX right now, I had Michelins on my Passat. You get the idea. And they were all purchased from .............Tire Rack. Purchased based upon the ratings they received from consumers. Can't get that at Discount Tire. Just sayin.

The Kumho's are very good tires. I had almost that exact tire (this is the newer version of the one I had) on my SVO, and they were MUCH better than the generals I have now.
