  • t-bird intercooler swap

I have an 84 svo and I am looking to swap my intercooler for a t/c.
I began to do the change but noticed that the svo brackets are
too small. How can I make this swap.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Ditch the brackets and use the tbird hoses or get new ones for a t-bird.
The hoses are stiff enough that the intercooler doesn't need the brackets.
If it ain't broke... Give me some time!

Pete, You can get heavy duty hose clamps to hold the intercoolero on tight. I got some at the same truck shop I got the studs and nuts.

Another trick is to take some round-head small, short sheetmetal screws. I used three in each pipe. Drill some small pilot holes in the pipes, this prevents spliting of the aluminum, and screw the screws in. The hose will keep them from falling out, and they will act as a lip to keep the hoses on, even with regular radiator hose clamps.

To keep the hoes from popping off, you can go by any metal fab shop and have them weld a small bead around the inlet and outlet openings of the intercooler. This bead will provide something for the hose clamp to seat against when the intercooler of under pressure.

Actually, with the heavy-duty clamps I got, I have no problem sustaining 17psi for an extended run... I tested it running in 5th gear and flooring it up to about 130-140mph... Don't tell the wife. HeeHeeHee

                  inter cooler swap

I must say you guys are awesome...
Thanks for all the help and advise with this swap.
I wish I had this much help with my other mustangs..

Was working on my new turbo and broke 3 bolts removing the wastegate elbow, so it is off to the machine shop I got..

One more question if the wastegate is stuck in the open position would it be safe to assume that I would have no boost?

thanks all you svo lovers out there
