volvo vs probe

Hi all,

I'm looking to install a front-mount intercooler in my 84 9W. My buddy's got (or can get) both a volvo and a probe intercooler. Any thoughts on which might be better? performance- or installation-wise... Anything I should look for or avoid?

Thanks GAboySVO. I had seen the first thread, but not the 2nd.

Has anybody tried to put the Probe IC in their SVO? I've yet to find any info on it at all, nevermind in the SVO.

I don't think either of those is a good choice. It's been pretty well documented that there's a significant pressure drop with the Volvo and the Probe only has 1.75" in/outlets. Another one to consider is the IC from the SuperCoupe. I know some people have gone with both the SC Radiator and IC, mounted side-by-side just like the factory setup in the SC.

I am going to put an NPR intercooler in my SVO. If you're cheap, get two TC intercoolers and have them welded together and frontmounted. It would be better then a Volvo or probe IC.

Unless he does his own welding, I bet it would cost more to have two TC cores welded together than to just buy a SuperCoupe or Porsche 951 IC, both of which are known to work very well.

From what little info I gather on the probe one, I was shying away from it. The only reason I considered either the Volvo or probe one is b/c my buddy has them already... no extra cost.

Yes, I am cheap, but I don't think my welding skills are up to the task. I'll just pony up the $$$ and see what else I can find.

Anybody have an extra SC or 951 lying around?!?!?
