  • rear belt conversion

Has anybody ever done the rear shoulder belt conversion? I found a part number for a supposed retrofit kit (obsolete, though), and I was wondering if anyone ever tried it. I also wonder what such a kit would contain that you couldn't find in a '90 or later hatchback.

      Rear 3 point seatbelts

Howdy all. Yup, I have the conversion in my car. The parts were from a car that Paul Becker had at one time. This was one of the most modified cars that we had seen. It had, what appeared to be, dealer added graphics and kick panel plates added to the bottom of the doors infront of the quarter spats. As we understand it, this was a dealer recall option. The belts would prolly fit any 79-93 Stang but would require different holes to be cut in the interior for the later model cars. I have never seen another car with these added. I'll send pics if someone needs them. Happy Non-demoninational holidays! Mikey

PS, I'd still like to add headrests back there!

OK, I've never been behind the panels in a 90 or later. You might make them fit in the older cars. Dunno. The recall parts in my car are WAY low-tech. this is an adjustable strap bolted to the quarter. There's no retract mechanism like the new cars. It actually reminds me more of an early 70s shoulder belt. It's completely independent of the lap belt.
