Has anyone messed with their distributor to try and get a more prcecise spark? I was looking at the pertronix ignitor and ignitor II systems, they look good but I'm unsure if they fit our application. The only listing they have for ford 2.3 is 1974. Was something unique about that year or do you think it will work in out "more modern" SVOs? What other options if any are out there also?

well, i assume that your goal for the mod would be to create more power...?
Well, the good news is that it has already been proven that the stock for ignition on the SVO is capable of handling the power way past the 300 at the rear wheels mark.
The bad news, and to answer your question ( I hope ) is that no one makes an after-market dist for our cars/engines.
If your hell bent on the idea to increase the spark. You can look into the MSD-6A / AL and a blaster coil ( Or the Crane firball system. )
I have run the 6AL for some time now and as far as any "seen" power-gain....I'll put it to ya this way...nope.
For the money/power gain aspect, I would have used it ( the $$ ) somewhere else.

Re: Distributor Question
1974 was the first year for that basic engine package. Maybe the application reads "1974 on...".Originally posted by Viper_Driver

Some folks are successfully installing the later DIS on these engines.

Yes, one of my goals is to get more spark power, and hence more power. But I'd also like to get my timing set a little more precisely. I've hooked my car up to a SUN computer and found that particularly at idle the exact timing is not all that good. I think this is why sometimes you can hear a slight miss sound every 6-9 seconds. I'm fairly certain that its not due to old/worn parts. I do agree that the stock system is adequate for almost all applications. I'm not too interested in a MSD box as they are expensive, somewhat hard to install and don't offer a very good bang for the buck. The ignitor systems I mentioned earlier run only about $100.

The last time I looked at the Pertronix stuff was for my 66 Mustang. They were to convert points type igintion to an electronic ignition without huge hassle.... We already have electronic ignition in the SVO.
