I purchased the car a about 7 months ago and the owner told me
the car had no boost. I have a new turbo, manifold and actuator.
I did not check to see if the flap on the waste gate was not stuck.
When I get home today I will check. My car is an early 84 with the upgraded turbo ( i guess it was converted at some point ).Where is this boost controller and how easy is it to replace?
The boost controller is on the right front of the fender beside the breather housing. It will be a cylinder a/b 1 3/4" tall and 1" in diameter and is mounted on a triangle plate. there will be two wires coming from it, one red and one yellow. there will also be two hoes' at the top on a "T" connector. If the controller is bad just replace it with a Ric Gillis adjustable controller, its only $40 and will allow you to turn the boost up a couple more pounds.
a 84 will have a boost controler (2 hoses connected to a little round thing) on the passenger side fender well, just in front of the strut tower. there is also a square box under it, that is the electronic controler for the boost controler.
you should make sure it has some hoses connected to it. -- if they are routed backwards, you get un-regulated boost.
When you are driving the car, does it feel like you have boost? -- is it possible that maybe just the boost gauge isn't working ?
You may also want to check that the turbo still spins freely
