  • 65mm T/B questions

I know some people are running one on there SVO's, I just got one really cheap and was wondering what mods (if any) will I need to make to install on my 86.
Is there a specific year or model vehicle that makes the swap easy from the donor car to the SVO?(one I got was from a mid 90's crown vic 4.6)
Is the swap of the tps just a bolt on thing or more involved?
What mods if any to the throtle cable?
Will I have to port the upper intake out to cover the 15 or so mm difference from factory t/b to the new one? (I figure yes on this one)
Finally where can I get a i/c hose that will fit a tbird i/c to the new t/b?
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks alot John

    Yes

Most use the 94-95 65mm TB. Electrically it is a bolt up. You will need to make a spacer or just call Tiny avenger 714-969-3456. He may still have kits. He was rumored to sell the info on the kits to racerwalsh. but not sure.

So if I am going to get a 65MM TB, use only the 94-95 Mustang GT unit? I see several listed to fit '86 -'93 5.0's and then the '94-'95 Mustangs and also 5.0 Explorers - what are the differences between these and is the '94-'95 the best to use?

                Thanks,
                John

The upper intakes on the 94/95s Mustang GTs had to use the I believe 93 TBird 5.0 upper intake for hood clearance issues.

You will need to get an adapter plate for mounting it, and an adapter plate for the throttle cable.
The 94-95 unit will accept the SVO sensors, so it will be a hassle free hook up at that point. Forced4 is supposed to get new stock in in January.

                          94-95 5.0 Tb

I updated to this configuration, you will have to mill out the upper intake to match the diameter of the bigger throttle body, this is the biggest part of the job but there is plenty of room to do it. I did this on the 84 stock upper intake manifold with no problems. The Forced4 Kit and instructions are very good and work with the original throttle cable etc. They also sell pigtails if you use the TPS etc. which were included when I bought my throttle body. You are not going to see huge horsepower gains according to articles I have read when adding easy performance bolt ons one at a time but I would say the throttle response is very good and am not sorry I spent the time or money on the kit. I first purchased 4.6 TB advertised on _bay to work but the installation is not as straightforward as the 5.0 unit with the kit so I got rid of it. Good Luck

Why do it? I know its popular, but its simply not necessary. There are plenty of examples of high horsepower turbo 4-cylinder cars with smaller inlet restrictions than a stock SVO throttle body.

Yet everyone jumps to this mod as an early change.

I don't understand it, maybe I'm missing something.

I have a 75mm I’m looking to go either a 70mm or 65mm unsure. I love the way the throttle response is but the 75mm is a little touchy with a small twinkle of the toes. If you have a 70mm or 65mm that I can borrow to perform a test with let me know.

                              Thanks
