  • Whats This Bracket For

Just finished the Valve Cover restore and when I finished putting it on I noticed this bracket on one of the water lines snaking behind the valve cover. I did not touch this thing. Any idea what it "used" to do?

And here is the valve cover.
    Turned out pretty good.

      Chris,

That holds the heater cooling pipes in place and keeps them from rattling. It mounts between the valve cover rear left side looking from the front and under the valve cover bolt head.

Just take the bolt back out. align the bracket with the hole and re-insert the bolt. Torque all bolt between 6-8 ft-lb torque starting from the center and criss-crossing as you move to both ends.

Your valve cover repaint looks great. When you get finished with your SVO, you can come do mine!! -LOL!!

          Thanks Mike
          That makes sense.
First I have to restore those cruddy water pipes and replace all of the hoses. What started out as a simple injector change sure has blossomed...it's endless.

And as the valve cover paint was drying yesterday in my closed garage, my wife came home, opened the garage door and ran over my project with the TT. Just a set-back...arrrgghh!

I think that the bolt is a stud with another nut to hold this coolant line holder bracket. Isn't that correct GAboySVO?

              8T6,

Not on my 86. However, I'm not the only one who has worked on the car in its life. I am pretty sure that the valve cover bolt with the extend threads are for the plug wire holders. The way my heat pipes fit, i don't think I could get the bracket over the stud without removing the hoses.

The only thing that should attach to the valve cover bolts with the long threads are the plug wire holders. That bracket attaches to a bolt somewhere near by, but I can't tell you where. I don't own an 86.

                  Here's the picture

Here's a picture of the back side of my 86 motor when pulled back in Feb. 2002. You can see the rear bolt is loose from removing the bracket, but your right, it is a bolt. I have thousands of pictures of original locations of bolts, brackets, etc. let me know if you need any other pictures. I'm still in the process of putting every bolt back in it's proper place. Sorry I didn't look before replying.

GaboySVO, does your 86 have a heat shield inbetween #4 and #3 (for the plug wire) at the exhaust manifold?

The two "inside" driver side valve cover bolts have threaded tops for the Ford plug wire route clip-on brackets. The back one had a bracket for 2 wires, and the forward one has a bracket for 4 wires. Since I don't route that way anymore (and I lost the 2 wire bracket) I sure would like 2 regular valve cover bolts for those holes. Or a suggestion for replacing all 8 with something else so they all match.

                      8T6,

If it did, it is long gone by now. I'm about the fourth owner. You might ask some of the original owners out there. Mark Haas comes to mind. Maybe start another thread?
