  • What have I done??

I just finished up the allways exciting task of changing the heater core in an a/c equiped Mustang. I got everything back together and noticed that my steering column is no longer centered in the dash opening. In fact I would say that it's about 1/4" off center to the right. I check the dash and It cant be off center because it wont line up with the bracketry if it is. I check the slop in the steering column brackets and it's as far to the left as it can possibly go.

Now I either screwed something up (which is entirely possible) or it was always like that and I never noticed. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Thanks

If you look at the dash of any fox of that erra, you will see that most are offset --

and to show that not that much has changed-- my 2003 is the SAME WAY!!

      svoom,

The two bolts that hold the steering column up near the front of the dash is somewhat adjustable (slotted). Loosen up on those bolts and you should be able to shift the column to center.

There are five bolts total the hold the column in. I dunno if you may need to loosen them all, I'm just adding what I remember to GAboySVO's knowledgeable answer.

I remember years ago on my Capri I ran into the same problem and had to play with those bolts to get it back to a decent set of straight...
