  • Performance chips

    Hey guys
Have any of you tried a performance chip in your SVO?
Super chip said I would get 35 hp & 24 ftlbs of torque. This sounds good so if any one has input I am all ears.

If you have any money left after you get finished with superchips, I've got some magic spark plugs that will give you 25 more hp. I've also got a bridge that I'll sell you cheap!

Spend some time here on this site and and you can learnabout some of the some of the mods that people have made to their SVO's to develop real power. You are not going to find it in a chip for these cars!

Superchips pulled a fast one on some turbocar kits, just like Stillen did to Z-car owners. You bought the chip, and with the chip came an extra added bonus. There was this tee fitting to put in the wastegate controller line which had a "metered" orifice to give you an extra 3 or 4 PSI of boost. That's 20% more boost on an SVO and 50% more on a Nissan Turbo Z-car. I bet if someone bothered to dyno a car with just the bleed valve installed without the chip, the results would be too close for one to extole the virtues of the chip's performance. By the way, do you know what the metered orifice was? It was the metal tip of the housing of a BIC ink pen!

Yeah, these companies were sure on the cutting edge of hi-Tech!

One of my favorites from Joe Morgan..." The only way to get 350HP from a superchips, is to start with a 365HP motor."

A junk 85 SVO I bought came with a Super Chip on the computer. Just for grins, Don (cobra0478) is gonna hook it up to his car sometime and see if it does anything at all. I'll let ya know the results (or lack of).

Back in late 80's/early 90's, I worked for a company called ADS (Automotive Digital Systems) - product was ADS Superchip. This is not the same company selling this product, but I thought I'd pass this on.....

We were "developing" a "chip" for the 5.0's. Basically, it was 3 resistors, one for air temp sensor, one for coolant temp, and one for knock sensor. Also had this "L shaped" piece of plastic, call the octance bar, which moved the PiP closer to something.

Sold for 3 to 4 hundred dollars, and we advertised it as giving like 32 hp at 55K. Well, it did, but almost all of that was from moving the PiP closer, which helped the spark burn the fuel at that RPM. Drop the RPM down to off-idle to 4500 or so, and at most you might see 3 hp.

Kinda like the bleed-off valve thing......

We rented a 89 mustang locally, pulled the engine, made like 40 passes on a 901 dyno (developing the chip), put the engine back in the car, and returned the car to the rental place. I feel so sorry for whoever bought that car......

I'm ashamed to admit to other stuff we did there.

If you have an 84 or early 85, you would see a much better improvment swapping in a LA3 computer and a set of 35# injectors for a fraction of what a Superchip would cost you.
              Just another '84 9W.

I'm embarased to say but I have a Superchips on my car now. The only reason I got it was because it is recalibrated to run 42lb. injectors( as so Iam told). I bought it years ago and just put it a couple of months ago. Don't ask me if it made a difference because the car sat for a number of years and when I put it back together I upgraded to a PE and added the chip. When I get a chance and some 35lb. injectors I'll do some dyno time on it and see if there is a difference.

I added the chip Lon speaks of to my car after adding a set of ported intakes,35# injectors, gillis valve and ported E-6.
All I noteced was an eratic idle.No more power judging from seat of the pants.
I removed it the same day and did the LA-3 computer swap.
My car also has the T3-04 turbo upgrade.
With just the few bolt ons I have the car is downright NASTY.
AS soon as I can get around to adding my Bailey valve and front mount IC I will post some times,oh and gotta slip that new tranny in also.

                        Remove a SuperChip

What is involved with the superchip install. My SVO came with one and from the sound of things here it is coming off. Does anything plug back in to the space where the chip now sits?

                          SVO86PONY,

The SC plugs into the service port of the EEC, nothing goes back in its place except some tape to cover the open port.

If anyone wants an add-on to their car that adds as much power as a superchip, the local auto parts stores sell neon stickers.

I agree w/ everything said here. w/ a stock EEC setup (a GOOD, one, like an LA3 or PE), you can get biig numbers, and maintain driveability.
you will only need a chip if changing injector sizes or upgrading (is it an upgrade) to a MAF sensor. then get the EEC-tuner.
