can you use the stock timing gear to advance or retard the timing? if so would the mark on the gear have to be more clockwise or counterclockwise to retard the timing. i remember when i changed the timing belt i had the mark off and the car seemed to pull better at low rpm (it had a lot more torque). thanks

18 degrees that is alot .so if did that then i would have to knock back the distrubutor alot. the reason why i asked is because i read your 86 tuning guide on another svo site ,and it said that 6-8 degrees retard would give the car more power down low. so i thought i could do it with the stock gear. i hoped the teeth on the gear would represent 2 degrees each but maybe not. thaks again mike. your the man!!!

I went 8 deg retard with my Ranger Roller cam and it made a world of difference. More power in the top end. I have an Esslinger adjustable cam pulley though. Which is a great tuning tool with any cam.
