  • Wireing Harness Question

On my 86, the wireing harness for the front lights apears to loop all the way around from one side of the car to the other. Does any one know how to remove/replace the lighting harness?

It looks like the wireing diagrams I have say there is a connector inside the right passenger compartment, but then it goes all the way around from the right to the left hand side lights, and continues and combines with other wires until disapearing into the left hand firewall. Can I just cut and cap off at the left lights?

    Thanks!

I missed this post when you first posted --

It's been a while since I had my harness out, but I seem to remember some wires for the VAM? running through there ?

I'm assuming this is your track car (since you said it's your 86)

If it were me -- I would run new wires for the headlights to 3 30 amp relays -- (1 for high beams, 1 for low-beams, and 1 for driving lights) using something in the neighborhood of 14ga wire for the headlights, and 18 for the driving lights.

-- then trace out the wires in the harness that come from the headlight switch for each, and wire them straight to the relay.

I'm not sure if that answered your question or not, but I have planned to do this to my 86 for a bit now -- If I run my driving lights & my headlights, it kicks the breaker in the switch (which I have replaced twice)

        What I'm trying to do...

What I'm trying to do is clean up the engine compartment a bit.

The wire that goto the VAM are on a different harness so that's not a problem. Because I dont run head/running/driving lights I was thinking about just eliminating the wiring harness all together.

I've seen some cars that look like they have a nicely cleaned up compartment and I dont see the wires. Do they run them under the fender well?
