  • Water Pipe Colors

Does anyone remember the correct color of those water pipes (tubes) running along the starboard side of the valve cover and around back? I want to redo mine! Not concours...just the color. I guess we prime and I think they were satin black. One tube (up front) even had a "squiggle" of thin yellow spray on it. Did anyone ever notice this on theirs? I always wondered what was up with that!
Also, does anyone have a hint for cleaning/bringing back life to the "fuzzy" parts of our dashes. I notice almost every interior pic looks the same. We all have this aged look. (This is an Interior question but I did not want to make two posts)

May I suggest that you explore the notion of somehow cleaning and coating the interior of those tubes as well. Rust and corrosion start from the inside, and this would prolong the life of the tube.

On the fuzzy panel idea, someone here was looking into how flock is installed (spray adhesive on the item and then sprinkle the flock on) but the original dark gray was not available. Does anybody out there have a flocking contact?

Maybe the finish varies by the year. My 84 has a silver zinc type plating on at least some of them. I doubt all the balck paint fell off. It's not uncommon for the NOS replacement to come with a different finish as in the battery hold down.

Lon has some posted in the classified and they didn't look black.

I guess I should look at my car again incase someone questions this. It is a perfectly valid statement to say I have some NOS ones in black but that can be miss leading. I guess the best thing is to make an educated guess based on multiple inputs.

The best thing is to reproduce them in stainless steel and paint them any color you want.

Sorry pat, I don't remember who the flocker was

        Sorry -- I just couldn't resisit!

All the tubes I have seen, NOS, or on 26 mile cars were gloss black.

The difference between the Non-watercooled ones (like on your 84) and the watercooled turbo lines .. like what Mike is talking about.

Yes, my name is Gaylord Flocker..... I've done a couple sets, but only in black. The actual flocking process is not that hard. Prepping the panel is the biggest pain in the ***. I am going to try and get some flock dyed the correct color and see how it looks. However, it will be a while as I don't have my SVO right now and it's too cold to be out flocking in the garage (ha, ha).

              Thanks Bud.

I wasn't trying to say anyone was wrong which is why I keep saying "my 84". No one listed what years were being discussed and I didn't bother to read the profiles and guess. Now we the differance.

                Back to the Pipes

Where was the post for pipes in classified?
And Mike, if those "sitting around" pipes are in your way I'll buy them from you! [I had to ask].

Not a prob. I assumed he was talking about the watercooled application ones because he stated they were running alone side the valve cover. Where as, yours don't .. they run underneath the exhaust manifold.

                    Shot of Yellow

This is a shot of the yellow "dot". Kind of blurred
                    Always wondered why it existed.
                    Any others?

                      How??

What is the best way to find a fabricator for replacement tubes of any kind? I mean, suppose I want some place to make me stainless steel pipes to replace my original water pipes. Where do I look in the Yellow Pages? How do I search? Surely someone has been down this road.
It sounds like the perfect solution but some of us (me) don't know where to start.
                      Any Hints?
