  • Why do people bash the SVOCA?

The simple answer? Because they are narrow minded children who are not SVO Enthusiasts....or are mislead/misinformed individuals who were fed lies and misinformation by these same narrow minded children.

    A more in depth explanation:

I get tired of seeing "children" on the internet bash this club because of our harsh stance on the parting of SVOs. These are the same people that want the SVO parts to make their Pinto run better(PE computer) or to make their standard Mustang look better with SVO parts. Sure there are parts out there to be had but parting out a perfectly good SVO is not and will never be acceptable around here. This same group of children like to call us "Purists"....but can't justify that statement when EVERY director has a modified SVO. There is room for everyone who is an enthusiast on this site...purist or hotrodder....it makes no difference as we all share the same Enthusiasm for the same car.

Some of these "children" use excuses like "it was a joke" when in actuality they posted the same thing on 10 different websites BEFORE posting it here as a regular ad(trying to fly under radar)....how is THAT a joke?!?...rather it is just an excuse to try to gain support for their role as "victim". Others who you see on the wall of shame KNOW what our policy is and yet they tried to keep a low profile on this site so they could sell their parts....in the end they got caught and earned their place on the wall of shame.

There is one site in particular where the very childish "victimized" kids run around bashing the SVOCA and our enthusiasm for the SVO Mustang.....many good people no longer visit that site because of this behavior so it now just becomes a playground for the children to run around screaming bloody murder when someone else gets banned for innapropriate behavior.

We have also seen people threaten to part a car out because it is not selling....yet their asking price is much higher than the real value of the car or current market conditions. Just because they overpriced their car does not mean that it becomes a parts car....people are not buying it because the price is too high. This is the same for ANY car and threatening to part it out is not going to make it sell any faster.

The bottom line is that if you do not share our enthusiasm for the SVO, you probably do not belong here. The TRUE enthusiast can understand the need for preservation and they know how hard it is to get parts reproduced for such a small market.

We are a TRUE enthusiasts site....we don't care if the car is a race car or a show car....as long as it carries on the nature of what the car was designed to be and that it is still in existence.

We knew we would catch flak over our tough stance on parting out SVOs....but nobody else was going to make that stand so we did. Have we made a difference? I think so and there are a number of people on this site who have saved SVOs that were going to be parted out. Sure there is a time when a car does become a parts car....but that does not apply to a car that you can get in and drive around in or has minor easily repaired damage.

And Paul knows my car is a perfect example of that! As I got it from him. Being saved, with major work done to it!

I believe you summed it up nicely - they're children. Any forum dedicated to a speciality vehicle is going to be run by a set of protocols. Abuse these protocols, even in so-called jest, and you're showing a complete disrespect for what the board stands for and it's loyal members.

I personally will be glad to see that the club is cleansed of such behaviour - even if that fool is myself.

      Couldn't agree with you more!

Eric's SVO is a fine example of what an enthusiast can bring back to life if they desire! This car was bought from an SVOCA member who could no longer take on the project and 95% of the people out there would have considered it nothing more than parts as this car was indeed rough from a front end impact. A trip to an experienced body man and the front unibody was back in shape and although it is taking years during Eric's spare time to bring the car back....it is still alive because of his enthusiasm to own a real SVO!

Thanks for the support....especially from someone who does not own an SVO but understands the enthusiasm one can have for a specific vehicle.

We normally don't have a problem with Club members acting this way, rather it is the narrowminded individuals elsewhere that for some reason or another(jealousy, frustration from not being able to rape our cars of their parts, who knows?!?) who bash us just because they either have nothing better to do like a bored child or maybe because we ARE making a difference and fewer SVOs are being parted out unnecesarily.....and they are irritated by it. These same people are the type that act as trolls on internet forums with the sole intention of irritating people....this is one reason why we had to eliminate free email accounts as it is a great way to keep the trolls out of here and back on their own playground where they can whine to their hearts content and not bother us here.

Many people have not heard this yet a number have. Those who have probably frequent the other forum, primarily these children on the other Forum feel that we have no right to be passionate about our cars and that we have no foundation in trying to preserve these cars. These same people see nothing wrong with the destruction of these cars....probably because it means they can then get the parts for their standard Mustang, pinto or other Ford. Some of them have nothing better to do and are small minded individuals who feel better about themselves by bashing people who care about their own hobby/interests.

I just thought I would put a forewarning up here in case people run into these individuals and/or forum.

I'm new here, but I'm not new to trying to preserve a rare car. I've been, for the past 7 years, an enthusiast of the Starion/Conquest twins (owned 8 of them) and saved several from becoming parts cars including one literally off of the back of a wrecker (I had it back on the road a week later - great car and I miss it)! I've also owned and thoroughly enjoyed a 1990 Eclipse GSX and a 1990 Eagle Talon TSi - both AWD. Yeah, I love turbo's!

I applaud your stance, and dedication to preserving a rare and special automobile. I wish the same attitude permeated the Starquest community as deeply as it does the SVO community.

My hope is that I can also find a nice SVO to bring home and eventually setup for some autocrossing. Of course, I still have a desire to own another Starion (parts are more readily available, especially performance parts, but the cars are not reliable, perfect car for the DIY'er).

                Great site, and great community.

Yeah...If ya read through the whole post...it just goes to show the ignorance (not stupidity...ignorance=not knowing any better) of the guys out there. The first thought is always to use these cars for parts for some "other run of the mill" car...I have never understood that. Why not have the rarer car with all that "cool" stuff already on it...FROM THE FACTORY!
I guess I'll just never understand...

I'd like to add something because this is the Most RIDICULOUS and narrow minded statement I have ever heard/seen about the SVOCA:

Modifying a SVO (over at SVOCA) to a large extent is looked down upon (unless it is strictly bolt-ons), a V8 is a like a red-headed stepchild, and parting out an SVO is a death nell (almost no matter how bad the car really is). We can't save them all, nor is it a club member's responsibility to do so.

The ironic thing I find here is that EVERY SVOCA Director has or has had a modified SVO...only 1 Director has ever had a concours restored SVO. My own car has a 2.5 with FMIC, V8 T5 and 8.8 rear and is not even an original SVO color....another Director has the Evolution SVO which is perhaps the MOST radically modified SVO EVER. I really find it rather funny when I do hear or see someone state that we are purists because it amplifies that persons ignorance because they have A) never attended a Reunion and B) haven't bothered to take the time to get factual information in order to base an educated statement from.

Sure, we don't like V8 conversions...why? because it is no longer an SVO...part of the SVO was the weight balance and a V8 throws that WAY off! That doesn't mean those owners are not welcome though...it just means it is not something the majority of us like to see.

No, we can't save ALL the SVOs but we HAVE made a difference....we have west coast members who have made a huge impact in saving a number of SVOs, I have done that as well and many members who own more than one SVO have done the same by adding others to their collection. There is sadly a time when an SVO IS a parts car...I have had a few myself but there is a difference between bent metal and rust holes in every pillar that you can stick your fist through. Nobody is EXPECTED to save every SVO but an Enthusiast by definition is someone who is passionate about something and therefore cares enough to try to make a difference and that is what you will find here with SVOCA members...they are ENTHUSIASTS!

Well, I now know that some here saw my ad on eBay near the end of last year. In that ad I clearly stated that anyone who is on the "list" don't even bother to bid.

Of coiurse I didn't sell it, and as Paul so eloquently pointed out in about post #3, perhaps I am expecting too much of it . . .

But it is valuable to me, and I don't want to see it hacked up when I know exactly what condition it's in and with a bottom end job it would be a screamer again.

Even if it WOULD be worth more as its parts than as a whole--

I'm a newb here, but I actually like the stance that the SVOCA has on the cars with parting etc. IMO, any niche car club etc, should be about the presevation of that specific model. All the other sites I frequent doesn't really care about parting cars out and the vultures come out when x-model vehicle is being parted out. Its nice to see a change.

my first post here and i agree whole heartedly. some guy asked me the other day if i wnated to part out one of cars, that cxs or csx with the shelby sticker on the window the other day... he needed parts for his 93 shadow.

for those unfamiliar, it is 1 of 498 1989 CSX's and would do 140+mph stock.
