  • INTERIOR fan switch

On my interior fan, it only works on the highest setting(but at least it works!). How do I fix this to work at all settings? Switch bad? Fan bad?

    -thanks for all the help.

    140,

My first guess would be that the switch is bad. Could be a bad connection at the fan, (because it is wired for different speeds) but I seriously doubt it.

Try getting another switch from a yard and swap it out. That is cheap, and pretty easy...

    hope this helps...

140cilx, This is not to uncommon a problem. Your resistor block has taken a crap. You can get one out of a JY, Ford dealer or probably your local auto parts store.

The resistor block is located in the heater box plenum and controls the fan speed. You should be able to see it by looking up toward the heater box from the passenger footwell. You will see a wire harness plugged into the side of the plenum, which is the resistor block. The block is held in with 2 screws, if my memory serves me right.

When the resistors go out you will get only one speed...high, which is run on the full 12-14v. All your other speeds are run through resistors, which effectively reduce the voltage/speed of the fan. Good luck.

            not the switch!

I had the same problem with my SVO..Ted put me right on the soultion. Swapped the resistor out that is located on the heater box and PROBLEM SOLVED. A fast and inexpensive fix.

I ran a search and it pulled up this one and only thread. So I'm reviving my old thread hee hee!

Does anyone know what value this resistor is? I've pulled it, and want to run to RadioShack to purchase a new one. It's a metal resistor, no color values on it or anything. Some print, but it's long gone.

If someone will give me the value, I'd be greatful!

Thanks much for this past info.

              -James

edit: btw, it wasn't the switch, swapped it w/ new and no change.
