ok, i just picked up a used 1986 grey SVO that is in decent shape for a restore. The previous ownder put 87-93 type molding on doors. Most SVO that i see either have no molding on the door or some type of thin grey moldings. Which i proper and where can i get the narrow ones if needed? thanks a bunch.

Body Side Moldings
The thin gray moldings are correct for the 86 SVO doors and the area on the rear fender in back of the doors and the back of the front fender in front of the doors.
These are made of unobtanium. They are HARD to find and usually go for $$$ on ebay or the parts section of this board. As an alternative you might try a body shop supply store and look at their selection of body side rub strip moldings. Some of the thin moldings I've seen are very close to the SVO type.

Even by evilbay standards, $600 is an outrageous price!
Maybe you can find an 86 SVO owner in your area who will let you look at their car to give you a better idea of what you are trying to match.
Some folks with 20th Anniversary Mustangs, that used a similar thin red molding, just paint a stripe in the recessed area on the doors and fenders with the matching red color to "simulate" the presence of moldings.
