  • Ceramic Ball Bearing

I am about to buy a T3/T4 hybrid and was curious if anyone has one with the ceramic ball bearing option offered by Turbonetics or Performance Techniques. Are they worth the extra money? And does anyone have any positive or negative issues with either of these companies?

    turbonetics

I would recomend buying the turbo from a reputable dealer of turbonetics not directly. Their cust service well lets say it is not good. I got my turbonetics from Tiny avenger. the service is great. Dave talked me out of the ceramic bearing. he said for a street car why waist the money. he also reinspects the turbonetics turbos to make sure they are put together right. He has gotten turds from them before. but I would checkout the turbos in the member deals. a bit cheaper than what I paid.

To be 100% honest with you....I wouldnt spend the $$ on one.

Tp me, the increase $$ you pay for minimal HP gain isnt worth it ( I could make a hellova lot more HP with that money somewhere else )

....plus the fact that I have had a bad taste in my mouth ever since we ran one on a 944T for about 2 months drving time, it blew, and turbonetics said " huh.....warranty..? whats that ?? "

      Never again.

Dave is still arround. He is a little disenchanted with the 2.3 market but he will still get turbos and stuff. He is getting into the v6 market as well as turbo accesrys in general.

                  Disco Potato

A few months ago Sport Compact Car ( I think) did an aritcle about a new turbo from garrett to replace the t3
they called it the disco potato i think it is the GT28R
it was ceramic bb and had much better flow then the t3/t4 it replaced. It was just pre-prduction then might be out now.
from the way they talked it would definately be worth looking into.

The improvements in the GT series are far more than just a ball bearing option. I would seriously think about using someone other than Turbonetics if you're going to be buying a turbo. Precision Turbo comes highly recommended by people who are running both T-series as well as GT series.
