  • Turbo water line

I'm having a bit of a fitament (sp?) problem with my water line going into my turbo. Long story short, I'm wondering if I can use a braided line instead of the hard metal one? Also is there a place I can get a prefabbed one or do I have to build one myself?

    THanks!

Vince, who's almost done putting in his FMIC...

For the water lines going in. Sure, been running one for years now with no prob.

Used aeroquip fittings for the fitment from the line to the turbo and on the other end I just cut the line and forced it onto the stock water line fitting that goes along-side the head. I have a regular hose-clamp over that and she is good to go.

The line is actually a couple feet long and is routed "around" the top of the turbo.

I wish i had a pic of the engine bay to demonstarte a bit better for ya.

      Around the top?

I'm sure there is a reason for it going around the top but it seems like a fairly strait shot to the stock water line fitting...

Does it go counter clockwise, clockwise, was it because of the fitting you used???

I just dont want to make any mistakes.

      Thanks!

        water line

I used some nice chrome pipe I picked up at home depo and made an extension that puts the line up out of the way and I came in with a high temp gates hose. it looks ok but the braided line is a good Idea.

Naw man, it was "looped" around due to the fact that I didnt want the line to kink. Used some ( i think 45deg ) aeroquip angle fitting, and an adapter fitting to feed the turbo.

I honestly have 3 of these damned things made up, I will tey and get pictures for ya.

Hey Vince, here is a pic of her, not great, but you can kinda see how the line is routed....

It starts from the "normal location" then goes toward the fire-wall, and is looped back ( behind the intercooler piping ) and then ( not pictured ) its fed into the turbo via some aeroquip fittings.

              Nice engine compartment Gator!

Don't want to get off the subject here - but that is a very nicely detailed engine compartment.... (and we can all learn from something that appears as clean as Gator's engine compartment)So I have three questions: 1. Which intercooler set up are you using? 2. Will your intercooler work with the A/C hooked up - and you just left it off for the "added" hp? 3. Is that a custom made valve cover breather cap (in front?) of the intercooler piping?

That looks like it will do the trick. Thanks for the picture. So you've made 3 of them, how about making up a fourth and selling me one I've never made any hoses with aeroquip fittings but I'm sure it's not too hard. Plus where to get the right one to fit into the turbo. Just trying to save some time.

                Let me know!

Errrr....I have only made 3 cause I am pretty anal, and I kept mucking the fitting up. ( once they get deep groves in them i get PO'ed and they are put aside. ) I will get some good pics of the lines, then its just a matter of calling Summit.

Naaaw man, its easy, believe me. The fitting for the turbo is aeroquip too...its something like a -8 line fitting with a pipe-thread fitting on the other end. Errrrr.....something like that.....i think.

I'll try and get some detailed pics of a "beat-up" one I have laying around for ya.

Yer gonna make me blush ya know.....

So I have three questions: 1. Which intercooler set up are you using?
                    Spearco ( Pre-Turbonetics days )

                    2. Will your intercooler work with the A/C hooked up - and you just left it off for the "added" hp?
From my understanding, it will work with the A/C...my A/C just kinda fell off ( It wasnt always this purdy under the hood. )

                    3. Is that a custom made valve cover breather cap (in front?) of the intercooler piping?
Well, not really, its a Ford Motorsport one that I snagged from one of my 5-liter buddies. Made a grommet for it, and stuffed it in there. It was there cause the oil pressure in the head kept pushing out gaskets.

Now I run a regular old cap cause I am back to running the primitive EVAC type set up from the back of the valve cover, to a catch can, then to the turbo.

I forgot all about the oil filler cap - that breather just caught my eye as thou it shouldn't be there in front of the throttle body. Sure is a nice clean engine - you got lots of time on your hands
(or have been at it for a long while!) Go ahead and blush.

OK, got some better pics for ya.

This pic kinda sucks, but you can see the angle fitting that is needed to make the transition.

Dont forget, you will need an adapter with 2 male ends. It will have to screw into the threads of the water inlet for the turbo, and then into the Aeroquip fitting.

I cant for the life of me remember what sizes are needed. I did this years ago, and when I go to make another all I do is slap it on the counter at Summit and say "Gimmie these."

Well...Like i say, one year I had a water pump that leaked in my 15.02 second SVO....6 months later I had a painted engine compartment and fully detailed engine that ran 13.2....

Cool! That really helps. I think that my problem ends up being the nut that holds the turbo onto the manifold is too fat. That makes it so I cant turn the fittings. Theres a place near me that sells all kinds of race plumbing hardware. I'll check them out.

                              Thanks again man!
