  • Hood question

I wanted to know if there were any year fox mustangs, such as maybe 79-86, that their hood bolts on and fits right on an SVO? Obviously the grill will be missing and such but i want to install a front mount intercooler and i want to maximize my cooling effect. After long debating about it, i know that the SVO hood is unique and such but at this point i really want to have that open grill space up front. So... I was thinking about getting a hood, if any will bolt on aftermarket that also comes with the hood scoop. I realize that the scoop will not be in the same location but at least it will have it.

I found this web page that i cant find the link to but they offer fiberglass SVO hoods and so does Mier Racing in Hayward, CA. I was also interested in possibly a small cowl hood (2") with the scoop and the big open space up front.

So do you guys know what year mustang hood will bolt onto the SVO and line up right with the fenders and front hood lip angle as well?

    Cowl hood

I found this pic of this guy who put a ... 460... in his poor little SVO, what a jackass. But I like the way all that open room is in front. I don't really like how his hood doesn't line up right with the headlights. But i could have some modify this. What do you guys think about it? I don't think i would want it that big and what do you think it would look like with an SVO scoop?

      None.

There's a thread here talking about a possible group buy from h o fibertrends - who offer a bolt on fiberglass replacement ... but there was little interest - so I dropped the idea.

....man, dont take offence....but that looks like @$$ in my opinion.

It reminds me of a puzzle that is missing a buch of pieces in the middle.

What kind of IC are you using...?

I was thinking the same thing but didn't want to be the first to say it. Our radiators do just fine with the openings we have, I don't think you'll have a problem with getting enough air to cool the intercooler. Also the hood and hood scoop is one of the things that sets our cars apart from a regular Stang.

I know... thats why im torn. I havent got an actual intercooler yet but i want to go with something custom like 140culx did with a big intercooler in front. I just thought the bigger open space would be better cooling.

What about a fron spoiler, i think Lee Clary has one, where can i get one and wouldn't that also help with cooling, i know a lot of chevys rely on this as they over heat without it.

There are several folks on this board who have put nice FMIC's on their cars without the need for extraneous scoops, hoods, etc. AT6SVO in San Diego has a nice Audi intercooler mounted in the lower front grill area behind the front facia. It fits like a glove and works well without any outside modifications to the classic SVO lines (Sleeper). He used a Thunderbird SC radiator and electric fan (narrower than the SVO unit) to gain the clearance for the inlet/outlet IC tubing on the passenger side of the front core support.
