  • No high end

Just got my car back running again (it always ran I just haven't driven it for a while) after the wreck and now I get plenty of low end and turbo boost but at the top of second and third around 4K rpm it just doesn't want to go. It will build boost and lots of power until then but then just doesn't want to go any higher.

I do have a Rick Gillis boost valve on it if that makes any difference.

Help! I'm racing this weekend and only have a few days left.

    Thanks!
Hoping to get on the track soon

    Timing Timing..

Reason I said it twice was because you need to check it in 2 places...

Ignition timing should be at 10° WITH the spout disconnected.

You also should check your cam timing, and make sure your belt hasn't slipped

A bit more description would be better too... are you still building boost when it does this?

      More details

Yes I am still building boost. The boost is around 12 pounds steady. It almost acts like the spout is disconnected but it's not.

There is also a wire that appears to have come loose from somewhere but I cant figure out where it goes. It looks like it was pulled out of some connector somewhere. The wire is dark blue with light green dots. It comes out of another connecter with 3 other wires. I know that one of the wires (I think it's yellow and red-ish) goes to the oil pressure sender. The other two wires goto another round connector that is also not connected to anything.

I checked my 84 SVO (The problem car is an 86) and couldn't find this wire or the round connector. Not being an electrical kind of guy I'm sorry I cant give a better description.

I checked my Chiltons manual and couldn't find this wire listed.

I will double check the timing tonight.

You're in luck, I just have been playing with the wire you are talking about.

I believe it is for the fan. The connector has 4 wires in it, one for the oil pressure, one for temp gauge, one for oil level sensor, and that last one is for the fan kick on.

On your timing problem (if that is what it is)... Take a timing light, and time the car with the spout disconnected, then shut the car off, plug the spout in, and check it again. It should be about 20° faster than it was without the spout.
        (30° total)

          Fan

Hey you may be right on that fan wire! I have an aluminum radiator with an aftermarket fan. I totally forgot about that. I had just hardwired the fan to a manual switch.

          I'll check the timing tonight.

            Figured out the problem

So it ended up being either the spark plugs or the wires. More than likely it was the wires. I used some Accel 8mm wires just before my last race. I changed the plugs and wires back to Motorsport and works great. Thanks for all the help!
